Job Title: CE&I Responsible Engineer\n Work Pattern: Hybrid - 2-3 days per week\n Hours: 40 hours per week\n Security Clearance: Minimum BPSS required; must be capable of achieving SC\n Project: Major Infrastructure Upgrades on a Nuclear Decommissioning Site\n\nRole Summary\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) Responsible Engineer to support a long‑term, multi‑billion‑pound infrastructure delivery partnership within the nuclear sector. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for managing CE&I design and engineering activities across a diverse utilities programme on a nuclear licensed site.\n\nYou will act as the technical authority for CE&I design, ensuring all solutions are safe, compliant, sustainable and delivered to programme and budget, while meeting the stringent regulatory requirements of a nuclear environment.\n\nProject Background\n\nThis long‑term infrastructure partnership will deliver critical utilities upgrades over a 15‑year period, including refurbishment and replacement of both on‑site and off‑site utility distribution systems. The programme spans the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning and handover.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAct as CE&I Responsible Engineer for a complex nuclear infrastructure programme\nLead and manage CE&I designers, including in‑house teams and external consultants or subcontractors\nProvide technical authority and assurance across all CE&I design deliverables\nEnsure designs are delivered on time, to budget and fully compliant with nuclear standards and UK legislation\nEnsure adherence to management systems, digital processes and design governance arrangements\nInterface with stakeholders to provide confidence that design activities meet regulatory and site licence requirements\nSupport delivery across the full project lifecycle, from inception through to commissioning and handover \n\nUtilities and Assets Covered\n\nThe programme includes design and delivery of CE&I systems associated with:\n\nSteam systems (HP & LP)\nWater systems (Raw, Domestic, Wastewater & Demineralised)\nCompressed air systems\nBulk chemical storage and distribution\nDemineralised water treatment and conditioning plants\nSewage treatment works\nRail and road tanker off‑loading facilities \n\nEssential Requirements\n\nDegree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering).
Apprenticeship routes will be considered\nChartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or demonstrable progress towards)\n15+ years' engineering experience within the nuclear industry\nRecognised authority in CE&I design\nProven experience delivering utility infrastructure design\nStrong technical management capability, including design review and assurance\nExtensive knowledge of UK legislation, standards and nuclear regulatory expectations\nSolid understanding of risk management and HSE requirements\nExperience leading change and delivering strategic engineering objectives \n\nDesirable\n\nExperience establishing or operating EDMS and design workflows\nBroader leadership across engineering disciplines such as quality, assurance or information management\nExperience developing and implementing design procurement and contract strategies\nExperience across multiple infrastructure sectors in addition to nuclear \n\nReady to take the next step in your career?
