Senior Management Accountant

Job Description

The Opportunity

We are working with an established and growing organisation operating within the environmental and infrastructure sector is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join its finance team. This is a broad and commercially focused role, offering ownership of multiple entities while working closely with operational stakeholders across the business.


Reporting into the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in delivering accurate management information, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the monthly management accounts process for a portfolio of entities.
  • Maintain and review trial balances, ensuring financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Prepare and post journals, accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments.
  • Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
  • Produce balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Deliver monthly, half-year and year-end financial reporting.
  • Analyse financial performance and provide insightful commentary on variances against budget and forecast.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Partner with operational and regional management teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and monitor capital expenditure.
  • Support external audit processes and year-end statutory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, controls and reporting processes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development support to a Management Accountant.


About You

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or possess equivalent experience, with a strong grounding in management accounting and financial reporting.


Key Requirements

  • Proven experience producing management accounts within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of month-end processes, reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and translate findings into meaningful business insight.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge and influence.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong systems aptitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior finance team members would be advantageous.
